September 20, 1519: The activity on deck is frenetic. Sailors rush from side to side, loading the latest batch of supplies. In the royal gallery in the harbor, preparations are intense. The King has arrived to witness the departure of the fleet: five mighty ships, commanded by five cunning captains whose intelligence will be tested in the years to come. Cannons roar, giving the starting signal. Anchors are raised and sails are unfurled. The voyage that will circle the globe has just begun. In Magellan: Elcano, you take on the role of captain on one of these ships that circumnavigates the world to collect as much cargo as possible. Each player has an identical deck of 15 cards and starts with five random cards in their hand. These cards have values on them in two colors at opposite ends and three decks of ocean cards in red, blue and green are in the center of the table. Reveal the top card of each deck. Each player takes turns playing a card from their hand in front of them, building up to three piles, one of each color, and rotating any player card to make it one color or the other. Play continues until all players have passed or have no cards left in their hands. The player with the highest red total discards their played cards and claims the corresponding ocean card; all other players return their played red cards to their hands. In the event of a tie, all players return their cards to their hands, with the red ocean card remaining in its place. Do the same with the blue and green cards. All players draw two cards from their personal decks, then a new red, blue, and green ocean card is revealed, accumulating cards of the same color if they were not previously claimed. Continue playing until all players' decks are empty. Add up your claimed ocean cards. The player with the highest total wins!
